Hip Replacement

Hip replacement is the removal and replacement of portions of the pelvis and femur that form your hip joint. It is performed primarily to relieve hip pain and stiffness caused by hip arthritis. Hip replacement surgery can be performed as a total replacement or a hemi replacement.  It depends on a few factors, including how active you were before your surgery, your age, nutrition, preexisting conditions, and other health and lifestyle factors.  A hip replacement is a major surgery, so it is usually only recommended if other treatments, such as physiotherapy or steroid injections, have not helped reduce pain or improve mobility.
